S5-H1 Protocol Integrated into the WinCC OA IOT Suite
Despite the fact that the product life cycle of the Siemens SIMATIC S5 controller has already ended, many devices remain in use around the globe. A perfect match for integrating the S5H1 protocol into the WinCC OA IOT Suite. With the support of the partner company DELTA LOGIC Automatisierungstechnik GmbH, older equipment can now also be made fit for Industry 4.0.
The multiplatform capable communications library ACCON-AGLink from DELTA LOGIC ensures reliable and smooth data traffic. The SIMATIC WinCC OA IOT Suite allows retro-digitalization of existing equipment and installations, combining reliable, industry-level hardware, proven software based on the SIMATIC WinCC Open Architecture, and intuitive apps for their monitoring, controlling and visualizing.
Comprehensive Communications Library
Just like the underlying SCADA system, the IOT Suite is also equipped with the familiar open system structure. This means that despite various communication paths and differing software programming interfaces data is transferred through a single communications library. This integration has been designed for the newly developed Linux-based SIEMENS Industrial OS.
Here the multiplatform capable communications library ACCON-AGLink from DELTA LOGIC ensures reliable and smooth data traffic. With focus on interconnecting to Siemens controllers, it supports S7-200/300/400 and Sinumerik as well as S7-1200 and S7-1500, and even access to the optimized data modules.
SIMATIC WinCC Open Architecture is one of the world’s most successful SCADA systems; the ACCON-AGLink communication library from DELTA LOGIC ensures smooth data traffic.
Costs Saving for the Customer
Integration of an old control into the WinCC OA IOT Suite was requested during digitalization projects of older production lines. As minimal invasive software adjustment as possible was to be used to integrate the old package-based H1 protocol through the ACCON-AGLink library. This resulted in promoting faster product availability and integration of old installations within the shortest possible timeframe. A cost intensive conversion of the production, which would have been otherwise necessary to move over to a new control system, is no longer required for users respectively operators.
Cooperation in Perfection
ETM professional control GmbH as product developer has already been using the multiplatform capable communication library ACCON-AGLink from the “Schwäbisch Gmünd” software development company since 2004. The intensive collaboration between the development departments of the two companies resulted in maintaining a practically identical software interface and only having to adjust the configuration to match the new hardware. Only the new drives required for WinCC OA distribution had to be integrated into the setup.
For Rainer Hönle, the founding owner, CEO and head of development at DELTA LOGIC, this is a perfect win-win situation: “Continuous development of ACCON-AGLink within this partnership-based development has been strongly promoted through both continuously upcoming new challenges faced by the products and those put forward by customers. Of course, other products also benefit from these improvements through integration of the core technology.”
