Green Hydrogen Microgrid and Fuel Cell Storage Systems

TKIL Industries Pvt. Ltd. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the College of Military Engineering (CME), Pune, to install a green hydrogen microgrid system on its campus. The project utilizes solar-driven hydrogen production technology developed by the Swiss firm SoHHytec SA, integrating hydrogen generation, high-pressure storage, and fuel cell-based power distribution within a decentralized microgrid architecture for off-grid applications.

System Integration and Microgrid Architecture
The installation is engineered to function as an autonomous, self-sustaining power network designed to reduce reliance on conventional energy sources. The system architecture combines renewable solar energy inputs with an electrolysis unit for hydrogen generation, effectively utilizing hydrogen as a chemical energy storage vector. During periods of energy demand, the stored hydrogen is routed through a fuel cell to be reconverted into electricity. This closed-loop microgrid framework aims to validate the scalability and operational resilience of hydrogen-based energy storage in isolated environments.

Research and Feasibility Platform
At the CME campus, the microgrid will operate as an active research facility for studying the operational dynamics of decentralized hydrogen energy systems. The installation will facilitate empirical feasibility studies and yield performance data for defense infrastructure planning. Additionally, the platform provides direct technical exposure to engineers evaluating the integration of next-generation alternative fuel technologies into existing military and industrial energy grids.
