Safran strengthens regional aerospace electrification with new Singapore facility

A new industrial hub for aerospace electrical systems
Safran Electrical & Power has opened a dedicated production and maintenance facility for aerospace electrical systems in Singapore’s Seletar Aerospace Park. The 70-employee site focuses on power-conversion units, electrical distribution equipment and aircraft batteries used on platforms from Airbus, Boeing and ATR, as well as fleets operated by Singapore Airlines, Air China and Japan Airlines.

The facility consolidates activities previously performed by Thales in Singapore, following Safran’s acquisition of those operations in October 2023.

Regulatory approvals and operational readiness
Production and MRO activities are fully underway after receiving certifications from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). With these approvals, the site reinforces the company’s role in Asia-Pacific’s aerospace electrical ecosystem, particularly as demand grows for next-generation electrical systems supporting aircraft electrification.

Safran selected Singapore for its established aerospace supply chain, strong MRO infrastructure and government support for advanced manufacturing. The plant provides closer logistical access for regional customers and reduces turnaround times for maintenance operations.

Integration into Safran’s long-term Singapore presence
Safran has operated in Singapore for over 45 years and now employs around 900 people across five production and maintenance sites. These facilities support landing-gear services, evacuation systems, onboard electronics and helicopter engines, making Safran a core contributor to the country’s aerospace cluster.

The new electrical-systems facility expands that footprint and is aligned with Singapore’s strategy to strengthen its role as a regional hub for MRO and advanced manufacturing.

Reinforcing regional and bilateral cooperation
The opening also reflects growing industrial cooperation between Singapore and France. Singapore’s enhanced aviation-sector framework agreement with the French Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGAC), signed in 2025, supports technology transfer and regulatory alignment. The new facility demonstrates how this cooperation translates into industrial capability that feeds into Singapore’s broader aerospace strategy.

Singapore’s Economic Development Board (EDB) highlighted the investment as a sign of confidence in the country’s aerospace ecosystem. With aircraft electrification emerging as a major technological shift, the new facility positions Singapore to capture future opportunities in both MRO and component manufacturing.
