Vaisala and Jaeun International have signed a distributor agreement, marking a significant step in supporting South Korea’s world-leading shipbuilding sector with advanced weather monitoring solutions. Under the new partnership, Jaeun International will distribute and market Vaisala’s maritime-specific weather sensors, weather stations, and weather systems – including MetOcean and Helideck Monitoring Systems (HMS) and wind lidars – across South Korea.
Jaeun International is a supplier of ship navigation and communication systems, representing global manufacturers such as Cobham SATCOM, Anschutz, Danelec, Jotron, and Comrod. As a leading company in Korea, Jaeun offers comprehensive navigation and communication packages and onboard services to the maritime industry.
Vaisala, a global leader in measurement instruments and intelligence for climate action, brings decades of expertise in meteorology to the maritime sector. Vaisala’s maritime- specific portfolio includes weather sensors, weather stations and helideck and metocean monitoring systems including wind lidars and weather data services. These solutions deliver accurate, real-time insights on wind, weather, and environmental conditions, enabling ship operators, offshore operations, and ports to optimize performance, enhance safety, and reduce emissions. Vaisala is committed to supporting the maritime industry’s transition towards greener, more sustainable operations.
South Korea stands as one of the top global shipbuilders, renowned for its strength in high-value vessels. In the first half of 2025, the Korean shipbuilding industry experienced robust growth, securing a 25.1 % market share worldwide. Major shipyards such as Samsung Heavy Industries, Hyundai Heavy Industries, and Hanwha Ocean specialize in building, for example, offshore structures, naval ships, LNG/LPG carriers, wind turbine installation vessels (WTIV), FPSOs (Floating Production Storage and Offloading), and wind-assisted vessels.
Through this partnership, Vaisala and Jaeun International aim to support these shipyards and specialized vessel operators with accurate and reliable weather monitoring solutions, such as HMS, to enhance operational safety and efficiency in offshore maritime operations.
“We see Vaisala’s weather products as a perfect fit to the navigation and communication systems we offer to our clients. Our shared commitment to quality and reliability forms the foundation of this strong partnership, and we are excited to deliver the latest innovative weather solutions to our customers. Vaisala’s technology also aligns closely with future smart ship concepts and next-generation eco-friendly initiatives, further strengthening the relevance and long-term value of our collaboration.”
Sangjoon Lee, CEO of Jaeun International

South Korea’s shipbuilding industry has shaped global maritime trade by setting benchmarks in vessel size, efficiency, and safety. With a growing focus on LNG carriers, alternative fuels, and smart ship systems, Korea is a key driver in the energy transition at sea. By joining forces, Vaisala and Jaeun International aim to further advance these industry standards by delivering innovative, world-leading weather technologies that support safer, more efficient, and environmentally responsible maritime operations.
