SLB Launches Global AI Academy, Successful Pilot Program in Indonesia Designed to Address the Digital Skills Shortage in Energy Worldwide
Academy will tutor professionals and students in the application of AI and data science.
SLB has successfully launched its AI Academy in Indonesia, a global education program to upskill energy professionals and university students in data science and digital technology. The first AI Academy, located in Indonesia, has already tutored two groups of more than 30 students each. The program empowers petrotechnical experts to build AI and digital solutions that increase innovation and extract value from customer assets in more efficient and sustainable ways.
“AI Academy will help customers fill their digital skills gaps and attract new talent to their organizations,” said Rajeev Sonthalia, president of Digital and Integration, SLB. “By combining strong domain knowledge with data science expertise, customers will scale the benefits of digital to become more productive and accelerate their energy transition.”
The rapid adoption of digital technologies by the energy industry in recent years is increasing business demand for skills in data science and AI globally. SLB leverages local partnerships to offer AI Academy to energy industry companies and universities across the world. Classes are taught by university professors and SLB technical experts, along with data science experts from SLB technology partner Dataiku, a world leader in ‘no-code/low-code’ AI applications.
The AI Academy in Indonesia ran from August to October 2022 and was delivered in partnership with Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), the University of Pertamina, and SKK Migas, and was supported by the Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA). The 62 AI Academy ‘graduates’ each presented an AI capstone project, which was evaluated by specialists from the partner universities, along with business and domain experts from SLB.
