RS Components to focus on the innovative and the inspirational at Electronica 2018.
From inspirational industry leaders and their stories to DesignSpark tools and the latest technologies in AI and in the IoT On show at the RS stand in Hall C5, Stand 147
LONDON, UK, xx Month, 2018 - RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), a global multi-channel distributor, today announced details of its participation at the Electronica Trade Fair in Munich, Germany, November 13-16, 2018, where it will be showcasing the latest technologies from world-leading vendors and enabling visitors to find inspiration for their next engineering project. Visitors to the RS stand will also be able take part in many special events, including a Robot Football Tournament, a Wheel of Fortune game and the Big Step Challenge – with many prizes to be won, including a €2500 holiday voucher.Present on the 450-square-metre RS stand will be key innovators who have been an inspiration to engineers around the world. For example, in the ‘For The Inspired’ zone, visitors can find out more about the innovative projects achieved by customers and suppliers, including:
• ‘Ambionics’ – how its founder, Ben Ryan, changed his son’s life by using 3D printing technology to develop a prosthetic arm
• Hyperloop – the story of how RS is supporting the HYPED team from the University of Edinburgh to accelerate the development of Hyperloop – the SpaceX project that aims to transform the future in mass transportation
• Influential inventor Norbert Heinz – who will be showing a CNC router built with basic electronic components, all controlled by the latest Raspberry Pi
• How industry-leading brands are bringing the latest engineering technologies and products to customers, enabling them to pioneer inventions that transform our world
Two key areas on the stand will highlight the industry mega-trends of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The ‘IoT Connected Stand’ will demonstrate: an open-source sensor-based board that captures environmental data and sends it via a LoRaWAN gateway to the DesignSpark IoT Cloud; and the use of blockchain ledger technology for a range of industrial applications. And in AI, on show will be the ‘Pidentifier’ system, which pairs a Raspberry Pi and its camera with the Intel Movidius Neural Compute Stick (NCS) to create a self-contained AI demonstrator.
In the DesignSpark zone, there will be demos of RS’ suite of free and easy-to-use professional CAD software tools; plus innovative designs created using DesignSpark PCB, such as a guitar pedal based on the KORG Nutube ‘valve amp’ and a Raspberry Pi powered ‘selfie’ camera. And in the ‘RS Pro’ zone there will be a real-life workbench that showcases a range of RS Pro electronics, electrical and mechanical products, including hand tools, tool chests, test and measurement equipment, and the latest RS Pro 3D printer.
In addition to the RS stand, and specifically aimed at the next generation of engineers, RS has a presence in Hall C6 – the Electronica Innovation Hall. This area will focus on a range of STEM-based educational demos and activities.
RS will be welcoming visitors at Electronica 2018 in Hall C5, Stand 147.
