Non-contact alternative to a position switch
Integrable wireless optical sensor
For the non-contact detection of, for example, containers in E-Kanban racks, the steute business unit „Wireless“ has developed a new significantly improved version of ist RF 96 LT wireless optical sensor, which it will be presenting at the SPS IPC Drives 2017.This wireless optical sensor has a compact rectangular housing which can easily be mounted on a rack system or a machine. Both the reaction time of the RF 96 LT and its switching frequency (approx. 1 Hz) have been considerably increased compared to those of its predecessor. The enery consumption of the new wireless optical sensor has also been optimised. Power is supplied via a long-life battery.
One of the first applications for this wireless sensor is detection of materials to be conveyed, e.g. transport boxes, occupying automated guided vehicles (AGV). In this application, the maximum switching distance for the detection of a red storage box is 120 mm, for a blue box 90 mm.
These functions of the RF 96 LT provide machine-builders with an alternative to conventional electromechanical wireless position switches. Two basic versions are available. The first is suitable for wireless communication with a corresponding sWave receiver unit on the 868 MHz waveband (or in other regions 915 or 922 kHz). The second can be integrated in sWave.NET® wireless networks, in which several dozen or even hundreds of wireless switching devices communicate with superordinate IT systems via access points. These wireless networks are particularly suited to applications in intralogistics, e.g. in E-Kanban systems, AGV fleets, (semi-)automated consignment systems or the position monitoring of rolling gates and loading ramps in logistics centres.
