SANY deploys electric terminal tractors for continuous port operations

Port logistics, container handling, and industrial transport operations require high-availability vehicles capable of handling continuous workloads under demanding conditions. In this context, SANY has delivered a fleet of SM4602T0BEV electric terminal tractors to a customer in Thailand, supporting the transition toward low-emission and energy-efficient port operations.

The vehicles are already in operation, designed to maintain uninterrupted logistics flows while reducing reliance on conventional diesel-powered equipment.

Battery swapping for continuous operation
A key technical feature of the tractors is the integrated battery swapping system, which enables rapid replacement of battery packs instead of conventional charging. Each swap takes less than five minutes, with optimal conditions allowing completion in under two minutes.

This approach eliminates long charging cycles, enabling continuous 24/7 operation and minimizing idle time. For port operators, this directly translates into improved asset utilization and reduced operational delays.

High-capacity battery and heavy-duty performance
The SM4602T0BEV is equipped with a 282 kWh battery, providing a driving range of over 120 km even when auxiliary systems such as air conditioning are in use. The vehicle is designed to operate reliably in high-temperature environments, supporting both short-haul repetitive tasks and longer-distance transport within port facilities.

With a maximum traction capacity of 75 tons, the tractor meets the requirements of heavy-duty container handling and cargo movement, where consistent pulling power and durability are essential.

Energy-efficient drivetrain and operator comfort
The vehicle uses a single-motor direct-drive system, which reduces mechanical complexity and improves energy efficiency compared to multi-stage transmission systems. This configuration also contributes to lower maintenance requirements.

Operator conditions are addressed through the inclusion of air suspension and an air-suspended seat, reducing vibration and road impact during operation. Improved ergonomics can support driver comfort during extended shifts and contribute to safer handling in continuous operations.

SANY has delivered more than 2,000 electric terminal tractors globally, reflecting increasing adoption of electrified solutions in port logistics. The deployment in Thailand illustrates how battery-electric vehicles with fast energy replenishment systems can support both operational efficiency and emissions reduction in high-demand industrial environments.
