Fives Supplies Annealing Furnaces for Yongfeng Steel Facility

Annealing furnaces support production of advanced high-strength steels
The production of automotive sheets, appliance steels, and advanced high-strength steels (AHSS) requires tightly controlled thermal treatment to achieve the required metallurgical properties and surface quality. Fives Group has signed a contract with Yongfeng Group to design and supply three annealing furnaces for new strip processing lines at a steel manufacturing facility currently under construction in Linyi, Shandong province, China.

The furnaces will be integrated into two continuous galvanizing lines and one continuous annealing line, supporting the production of a wide range of high-grade steel products intended for automotive and appliance manufacturing.

Vertical annealing furnaces designed for continuous strip processing
The project includes the installation of Stein Digiflex annealing furnaces, designed for continuous strip processing in high-performance steel production lines. These systems are intended to provide precise temperature control during the annealing process, which is essential for achieving the desired mechanical properties and surface quality in advanced steel grades.

Annealing furnaces used in galvanizing and annealing lines play a critical role in adjusting the microstructure of steel strip before further processing, such as coating or forming operations. Accurate thermal cycles help ensure that automotive sheet steel meets requirements for strength, formability, and surface finish.

Energy-efficient combustion and hydrogen-capable cooling systems
The furnaces will be equipped with the latest generation of AdvanTek combustion systems, designed to improve energy efficiency while maintaining low emission levels. The combustion system supports fuel flexibility, allowing operators to adapt energy sources according to plant requirements.

In addition, the furnaces incorporate the FlashCooling rapid cooling system, which enables controlled cooling of steel strips after the annealing stage. The system is capable of operating with high-hydrogen gas mixtures, providing flexibility in cooling rate adjustment and thermal cycle management.

This technology allows operators to maintain uniform cooling conditions, which is important for achieving consistent mechanical properties across high-strength steel products.

Expanding production capacity for high-value steel markets
The new steel facility in Linyi will enable Yongfeng Group to expand its product range into higher-value markets, including automotive body panels and appliance-grade steel sheets. These applications require steel products with strict metallurgical characteristics and surface quality suitable for exposed and non-exposed automotive components.

By integrating advanced annealing furnace technology into its new strip processing lines, the plant will be equipped to meet the thermal processing requirements associated with modern high-strength steels used in vehicle manufacturing.

The contract highlights the growing demand for advanced heat treatment technologies in steel production as manufacturers continue to develop materials that combine strength, formability, and lightweight performance for automotive applications.
