Valmet Supplies DCS Automation for Daklo Hydropower Plants

Valmet will supply distributed control systems (DCS) and electric governor controls for the Daklo 1 and Daklo 3 hydropower plants under construction in Quang Ngai Province, Vietnam. The automation systems will control and monitor all core hydropower processes, supporting reliable electricity generation while optimizing water management and operational efficiency.

The order was placed by Industries Equipment and Solution Company Ltd (IESC), Valmet’s local partner in Vietnam, which is contracted by the project’s EPC contractor. The automation solution is designed as a mission-critical system, providing centralized control, monitoring, and protection of turbine, generator, and auxiliary processes across both plants.

Daklo 1 and Daklo 3 are run-of-river hydropower plants with installed capacities of 12 MW and 22 MW, respectively. The facilities are intended to contribute renewable electricity to Vietnam’s national grid while efficiently utilizing local water resources. Valmet’s automation will support stable operation under varying hydrological conditions by optimizing water balance and maximizing energy output.

Valmet’s scope of delivery includes the engineering, design, supply, and commissioning of the complete automation system. The distributed control systems will enable real-time monitoring, coordinated process control, and safe operation across all plant subsystems, improving long-term reliability and lifecycle performance.

The automation deliveries are scheduled to be handed over with Daklo 1 at the end of 2026 and Daklo 3 in spring 2027, in line with the plants’ planned commercial operation. The order is included in Valmet’s fourth-quarter 2025 intake, although the contract value has not been disclosed.

By supplying automation for the Daklo hydropower projects, Valmet strengthens its presence in Vietnam’s renewable energy sector, supporting hydropower operators with systems designed to improve efficiency, reliability, and sustainable power generation.
