Singapore, GE Aerospace Partner for Next-Generation Aviation & Aerospace Technologies

Singapore has established a new public–private research collaboration with GE Aerospace to accelerate development of next-generation aviation and aerospace technologies. The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), GE Aerospace, and the International Centre for Aviation Innovation (ICAI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 2 February 2026 at the 3rd Changi Aviation Summit to create the Singapore Partnership for Aviation & Aerospace Research and Capability (SPAARC).
SPAARC provides a structured framework for joint research, development, and capability building across multiple technical domains critical to future aviation operations. The partnership will focus on applying artificial intelligence to aviation safety and operational effectiveness, including maintenance optimization, flight operations support, and airspace management, alongside the development of AI governance frameworks aligned with aviation safety certification requirements.
Another core workstream addresses airspace modernization, with research aimed at improving safety, efficiency, and resilience in increasingly congested airspace environments. This includes advanced analytics to optimize flight routing and capacity management, as well as digital platforms to improve coordination among airports, airlines, and flight crews.
The partnership also covers advanced aerodynamic research supporting next-generation propulsion systems. Activities include investigation of novel engine designs and methods to integrate these systems with existing aircraft platforms and airport infrastructure, reducing barriers to deployment.
SPAARC also establishes mechanisms for identifying R&D opportunities, coordinating joint technical programs, and enabling knowledge transfer among government, industry, and research stakeholders. The initiative represents an expansion of GE Aerospace’s activities in Singapore beyond its existing maintenance, repair, and overhaul operations.
The collaboration is intended to address long-term challenges associated with air traffic growth, system complexity, and safety-critical deployment by accelerating the transition of research outputs into operational aviation capabilities.
