Franz Morat Group to showcase plastic drives at KPA Ulm

The Franz Morat Group will present plastic and hybrid drive solutions for automotive and industrial applications at KPA Ulm, taking place on February 25–26, 2026, in Ulm, Germany, Hall 1, Booth C5.

The company’s exhibition focuses on how plastic-based and hybrid drive components can be implemented reliably while balancing noise reduction, compact installation space, weight optimisation and cost efficiency. Under the umbrella of the Franz Morat Group, development, design and series production of drive solutions are handled from a single source.

Automotive applications: expanding into thermal management
In automotive engineering, the group develops and manufactures gearing components, technical plastic parts, actuators and assemblies made from high-performance polymers. Existing applications include seat adjustment systems, window lifters, wiper drives with metal-reinforced gears, and housing components for tailgate drives and pump control units.

The portfolio has recently been expanded to include components for thermal management systems. These cover actuators, clutch elements and pump components such as housings, impellers and connectors. Typical use cases include battery temperature control, cooling of power electronics, engine cooling systems and HVAC applications, where dimensional stability, noise behaviour and media resistance are critical.

Industrial drive systems and hybrid solutions
For industrial customers, the group contributes its plastics and hybrid expertise through its drive technology division. Exhibits at KPA Ulm include injection-moulded plastic components, plastic-to-metal hybrid parts and complete gear and drive systems.

Applications range from ball-bearing control drives for valve actuation and precision spindles for mobile communications antennas to swivel gear units and control drives for automation technology. Durable gearing components for stairlifts also form part of the industrial portfolio. The solutions are supported by more than 100 years of experience in gear and drive technology, allowing designs to be tailored to specific load profiles and operating conditions.

Application-driven validation and gear testing
A key aspect of the group’s development approach is application-based validation. Using a dedicated gear test rig, endurance tests with flexible load spectra are performed under defined lubrication conditions, including oil and grease.

These tests generate application-relevant load capacity data, enable direct comparison of design variants and accelerate project-specific validation. The testing infrastructure is also available as a service, supporting faster and more robust design decisions for customer-specific drive solutions.

Technical presentation at KPA
In addition to the exhibition, the Franz Morat Group will contribute to the KPA Speakers Corner programme. On February 25, 2026, from 11:00 to 11:15, a gear technology specialist will present “speeroX – the highly compact right-angle gearset in plastic.”

The presentation addresses applications requiring high transmission ratios within minimal installation space. It demonstrates how speeroX technology can halve centre distance compared with worm or crossed-helical gear sets while maintaining a broad ratio range, illustrated through a direct technical comparison.

By combining plastic and hybrid materials with application-driven validation, the Franz Morat Group positions its drive solutions for space-constrained, low-noise and efficiency-critical applications across automotive and industrial sectors at KPA Ulm 2026.
