PT Pertamina (Persero), through its subsidiary Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), and Singapore LNG Corporation have established a partnership to develop Bio-LNG energy. This partnership was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Pertamina NRE President Director John Anis and Singapore LNG Corporation CEO Leong Wei Hung during the 50th ASCOPE Council Meeting bilateral meeting held in Bangkok, Thailand, on October 1, 2025.
Pertamina NRE President Director John Anis explained that the signing demonstrates Pertamina Group's commitment to developing bioenergy. Singapore has a strong market, while Indonesia boasts abundant resource potential, making this collaboration beneficial for both countries.
As a follow-up to this collaboration, Pertamina NRE will soon conduct a technical study to convert Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) into biogas/bio-LNG. The next step will be to establish a processing plant for distribution to Singapore LNG.
"So, the LNG will be made in Indonesia from palm oil waste and converted into environmentally friendly green energy. It will then be distributed to Singapore, possibly via a pipeline between Sumatra and Singapore, or by ship. Pertamina is also utilizing the carbon credits generated from this project. Once the project is operational and production is successful, the next step is certification so that its products will be recognized internationally and gain greater credibility," said John Anis.
Pertamina NRE's expansion into Singapore represents an effort to enhance its competency, particularly in green energy. Drawing on this global experience, Pertamina can develop similar energy potential domestically to optimize the benefits of environmentally friendly fuels for the community.
As a leading company in the energy transition, Pertamina is committed to supporting the 2060 Net Zero Emissions target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). All of these efforts align with the implementation of Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) across Pertamina's business lines and operations.
