MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC TO EXHIBIT AT JAPAN INTERNATIONAL AEROSPACE EXHIBITION 2024

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation announced that it will organize an exhibit during the Japan International Aerospace Exhibition 2024 (JA2024) at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition complex (Block W1-007, West Hall 1) from October 16 to 19. The company will exhibit a range of initiatives focused on contributing to creation of a safe and secure society and sustainable development through satellite development, satellite data solutions, transfer vehicle and lunar landing.

Exhibits

1) Satellite development as infrastructure, and satellite data solutions
Mitsubishi Electric will introduce satellite infrastructure that supports a safe and secure society and solutions that utilize satellite observation data to address issues in global society.
  • Earth observation satellites: The Advanced Land Observing Satellite-4 “DAICHI-4” (ALOS-4), the nation’s newest geostationary meteorological satellite known as the “Himawari-10,” and the Global Observing Satellite for Greenhouse gases and Water cycle (GOSAT-GW) are being used in a multitude of applications, including disaster monitoring, weather forecasting, and climate change monitoring, with the overall objective of accurately confirming various states of the global environment.
  • Satellite data solutions: Various examples will exhibit how satellite observation data is being integrated into solutions and services for disaster prevention and mitigation, infrastructure monitoring, carbon neutrality and oceanographic monitoring.
  • Positioning satellites: By always having at least one satellite flying near the zenith over Japan, Quasi-Zenith Satellite System “MICHIBIKI” (QZSS) will be operated with seven satellites in future to improve the accuracy and enable positioning using only QZSS.
  • Communication satellites: Communication satellites supporting wide-area coverage, broadcasting and disaster resistance, including the Engineering Test Satellite-9 now under development, are being equipped with cutting-edge technologies and having international competitiveness to meet growing demands for high-speed, high-capacity communications.
2) Transfer vehicle and lunar landing
Mitsubishi Electric will also introduce its initiatives, mainly related to guidance navigation and control, being used to transport supplies to space stations and for other purposes.
  • SLIM (Smart Lander for Investigating Moon): A full-scale model used for developing and testing SLIM, which successfully landed on the Moon’s surface in January 2024 with high precision (within a 100-meter margin of error), will be exhibited.
  • HTV-X (The next generation cargo transfer vehicle): The HTV-X, the successor to the H-II Transfer Vehicle “KOUNOTORI” (HTV), is one of the unmanned orbital transport vehicles being used to deliver supplies to the International Space Station (ISS).
  • MMX (Martian Moons eXploration): The MMX spacecraft will be used in the world’s first attempt to observe and gather samples from Phobos, one of the Martian moons, and return to Earth.
