The automotive industry is resolutely driving forward in the development of electromobility: Webasto, the automotive industry's global systems partner, is also entering the field of battery systems production. The production of battery packs for a European bus manufacturer has already started at the Webasto plant in Schierling in the Regensburg county, Bavaria. For several years now, KUKA robots have been an integral part of the production of plastic medical laboratory products at Ritter GmbH. Demand has risen due to the coronavirus pandemic. A further seven injection molding systems with KUKA robots are now being added at breakneck speed.​

KUKA has been working with the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology (ILT) and other industrial partners on a joint project of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and KIT (Karlsruhe) for integrating hybrid LMD technology into the production chain. The process used is laser metal deposition (LMD), popularly referred to as “3D printing”. KUKA robots form the basis of the system.
